Famine is confirmed in Gaza

Palestinian children stand in a damaged public space with empty cooking pots.
Bakeries are shuttered and store shelves are bare. Life for Gaza’s citizens - including its youngest - is consumed by the daily struggle to find food.

Famine is now a reality in Gaza after 22 months of violence, blockade, and willful inaction. Nearly every family is skipping meals, scavenging for food, and confronting the escalating risks of starvation, disease, and death.

A United Nations-backed report confirms that over half a million people in Gaza City are facing catastrophic food shortages. A million more people are projected to be at risk of starvation and death in the next month.

An estimated 132,000 cases of children younger than five are at risk of death from acute malnutrition through June 2026. Nearly 55,500 malnourished pregnant and breastfeeding women will require urgent nutrition response.

Palestinians desperately need safe access to the food, water, and supplies they need to end this famine — Mercy Corps is providing clean water to families in Gaza and working to scale up our delivery of lifesaving aid once we can get our lifesaving supplies in.

With operations in over 35 countries, Mercy Corps tackles crises globally. We partner with local communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. Your donation today can make a lifesaving impact where it’s needed most.
