Our Storybook: Voices of Resilience and Change

From 2021 to 2024, GIRL-H has reached over 20,000 adolescents across Uganda’s Karamoja region, equipping them with essential life skills, financial literacy, vocational training, and health information. At its heart, GIRL-H is about breaking barriers — social, economic, and cultural — that limit the potential of young people, with a strong focus on girls.

The storybook showcases the real-life impact of GIRL-H’s community-based approach, safe learning spaces, and financial inclusion strategies, all designed to support adolescent resilience and agency. Through vibrant stories and testimonies, we highlight how participants are not just learning, but leading — from starting small businesses and joining savings groups to challenging harmful gender norms in their communities.

This storybook also responds to key learning questions around the role of financial inclusion and social behavior change communication (SBCC) in driving empowerment. It offers insight into what works, what’s changing, and how GIRL-H’s holistic model can inspire future programming.

Designed for donors, development partners, and government stakeholders, this storybook is more than just a collection of stories — it's a reflection of impact, innovation, and the unwavering resilience of young people building brighter, more independent futures.
