Sanjay Gurung is the Vice President of Technical Resources and Quality, heading up Mercy Corps’ Technical Support Unit. He serves as the agency’s principal thought leader and strategist for its technical competencies, guiding an influential, agile, global team of technical experts to design and execute, innovative, forward-leaning strategies and programme approaches.

He has over 20 years of experience in conceptualising, designing, managing, and monitoring development and peace-building initiatives globally in countries as diverse as Mongolia, Nepal, Sudan, Libya, Myanmar, Uganda, Kenya, DRC, India, Iraq, and Colombia. Having established his career with the Government of India and then as the Programme Manager, Executive Director for Mercy Corps India, and TSU Senior Director, he has significant expertise in strategic management and leadership and understands first-hand the essential role of collective technical proficiency in programming impact.

In his free time, Sanjay loves to paint pet portraits for his friends, and tinker around with and ride his vintage motorcycle.
