Your Will is an opportunity for you to help and provide for the people you love. It’s also an opportunity for you to create lasting change for families in need around the world. Having an up-to-date Will is the only way to make sure that your family, friends, and any charities you care about, are provided for as you intended.
Leaving a gift in your Will is easier than you might think. To ensure that your Will is valid we recommend that you consult a solicitor. If you already have a Will but wish to make an amendment to include a gift to Mercy Corps we also advise that you contact your solicitor who will draw up a legal document (codicil) to change your existing Will.

The types of gifts you can leave Mercy Corps
There are three main types of gifts that you can leave in your will:
- Pecuniary Legacy: A gift of a fixed sum of money. The sum can be index-linked to inflation.
- Residuary Legacy: This is a gift of the remainder, or a percentage of the remainder, of your estate after all other beneficiaries have been provided for. This is a popular way to leave a gift to a charity.
- Specific Legacy: A specific item left in your Will, such as stocks and shares, a painting, jewellery, or a car.
