News Alert: 'Shameful' UK Aid Cuts Consign Millions to Poverty

Responding to today’s vote on UK aid cuts, Alexandra Angulo, Mercy Corps’ Executive Director, said:

“Put simply, today’s vote in Parliament reverses decades of lifesaving international support. It abandons families and communities facing the triple threat of COVID-19, climate change and conflict. It is consigning millions more to poverty, hunger and disease.

"That this foreign aid cut is happening right as the world fights a global pandemic, as many nations fight new variants without vaccines, is shameful.

"We urge the government to make sure that this aid cut is not permanent, that we return to 0.7% as soon as possible, and that the most essential UK aid programmes making a big difference to millions of lives are not the ones put on the chopping block.”
